About the Role

We are looking for three motivated and detail-oriented Associate Business Managers to join our COO teams across Corporate Finance, Fixed Income, and Research & Equities in Sydney. These are broad and dynamic roles offering exposure to strategic planning, client and trading operations, regulatory compliance, technology, risk management, and business development across Barrenjoey's core businesses.

Working closely with senior leadership, you will support the day-to-day operations of the business while contributing to longer-term initiatives. The responsibilities span operational risk and control management, client and business operations, stakeholder reporting, deal and project support, compliance coordination, and process improvement. The roles will evolve as you progress.

We are looking for candidates who are proactive, commercially minded, and comfortable operating across multiple workstreams. You will engage with stakeholders across the firm, making strong communication and relationship-building skills essential. An ability to distil complex detail into clear, practical outcomes will set you apart.

This is a fully office-based role, requiring on-site presence five days per week.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work within the COO team to support strategic, client, operational, business development, planning, and reporting activities
  • Manage operational risk, including implementing and documenting business controls, procedures, and process improvements
  • Support day-to-day client and/or trading operations and maintain databases
  • Work with Compliance, Legal, Risk, Finance, Technology and Operations teams to support the implementation of policies and business initiatives, and maintain a robust front-to-back control environment
  • Deliver management information and reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Liaise with stakeholders across the organisation and third-party vendors to maintain business processes and compliance requirements
  • Represent the business in projects and change management initiatives spanning products, technology, client, and compliance workstreams
  • Drive BAU tasks including reporting, KYC, expense approvals, forecasting, people management activities, and business continuity
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes, client service, business analytics, and system applications

 

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline including finance, economics, accounting, engineering or data analysis; or demonstrated experience in performing the responsibilities outlined above
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience in financial services or a related business environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively and manage stakeholders of all levels
  • Attention to detail, with sound problem-solving ability
  • Commercially minded with a proactive, can-do attitude and a willingness to speak up and drive change
  • Effective collaborator who thrives in a team environment and is reliable and pragmatic in approach
  • Experience with AI tools and their practical application in a business context, including workflow automation, data analysis, and content generation is beneficial
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis beneficial (e.g., Excel, Salesforce).

 

Overview of the teams

  • Corporate Finance

The Corporate Finance COO team oversees strategic and operational activities across Barrenjoey's advisory and capital markets business. The Associate Business Manager in this team will be involved in deal management — including supporting the initiation of new client engagements, deal selection and deal lifecycle tracking — as well as client data management, forecasting and cost management, business controls, people management activities, and the organisation of employee training and recruitment programs.  You will be working in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment delivering across multiple teams in a client-centric business.

  • Fixed Income

The Fixed Income COO team sits within a dynamic trading and sales business. The Associate Business Manager will gain deep exposure to trading technology, compliance requirements, and the end-to-end trade lifecycle. Responsibilities will be broad, including business controls, data analysis and reporting, compliance coordination and change initiatives to support evolving business, client and regulatory requirements.  An understanding of Fixed Income products is desirable but not essential. 

  • Research & Equities

The Research & Equities COO teams support two closely connected and dynamic businesses. Exposure to both provides a unique vantage point across client, operational and strategic workstreams. The Associate Business Manager will support client service delivery, and work closely with the Research, Sales and Trading teams. You will also be involved in team administration, business controls, compliance coordination, and new business and change initiatives.
